Our greatest battles are that with our own minds.
Have you ever thought about the things you say to yourself?
You might not realize it, but the way you talk to yourself shapes everything about who you are, what you do, and how you feel.
One morning, I woke up feeling tired. You know that feeling when the alarm goes off and your body just wants to stay in bed forever? I didn’t want to get up. I thought, “I’m so tired. I don’t want to face the day.”
But then, something inside me told me to pause. What if I started my day differently? What if I chose to say something different?
So, instead of saying, “I’m tired,” I whispered to myself, “I’m excited about today.”
And guess what?
The moment I said those words, my body felt a little different. I felt a spark of energy, just a tiny one, but it was enough. It was like I had tricked my brain into thinking I had something to look forward to.
Here’s something really cool about our brains — they can’t tell the difference between what’s real and what we’re just thinking about.
For example, when I told myself I was excited for the day, my brain thought, “Oh, this must be true!” And it started to make me feel more awake and ready for the day.
But it wasn’t always like this for me. I used to just let my brain run on autopilot.
I’d wake up with the same thoughts every day, like “I don’t want to get up” or “This day is going to be hard.”
Those thoughts would make me feel tired, and I’d end up just doing the same things every single day, feeling stuck.
The funny thing is, most people live their lives like this.
They wake up thinking the same things, which leads to the same feelings, which makes them do the same things — over and over again. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
You see, all of our thoughts are like little programs running in our brains. And the more we think something, the stronger that thought becomes.
After a while, it gets so strong that it feels like reality. But here’s the thing — just because you’ve thought something a lot doesn’t mean it’s true.
Take a moment to think about this — the thoughts that hold you back — like “I’m not good enough” or “I can’t do this” — are just thoughts. They’re not facts.
They’re just things you’ve told yourself so many times that they’ve become part of your brain’s routine.
But guess what?
You can change them. You can choose new thoughts.
The first step is to become aware of what’s going on in your mind.
If you don’t notice your thoughts, you can’t change them. Awareness is the secret to starting something new.
The first 20 minutes of your day are the most important.
When you wake up, your brain is looking for its usual patterns. It’s like a sleepy computer searching for its regular program.
So, if the first thing you say to yourself is, “I’m tired,” then guess what? Your brain’s going to take that and run with it.
But what if you said something different?
Here’s a trick — before you do anything, don’t check your phone, and don’t jump out of bed with the same old thoughts.
Instead, speak to yourself out loud. Say something like..
“Today is the day I break free from my past. Today, my new life begins. Every cell in my body is awakening to a new possibility.”
Sounds a little strange, right?
But trust me, it works.
Feel the words. Imagine them sinking into every part of your body. I know it might feel weird at first, but this is how you begin to change your brain.
The more you practice this new self-talk, the stronger those new thoughts become. Your brain starts to expect different words.
At first, it might feel uncomfortable. It might even feel fake, like you’re tricking yourself. But here’s the truth — that feeling of discomfort? It’s a sign that change is happening!
It’s like when you start a new workout routine. Your muscles hurt at first, but that pain means you’re building strength.
In the same way, your brain is building new “muscle” every time you replace negative thoughts with positive ones.
Sometimes, old thoughts will sneak back in.
Maybe you’ll find yourself thinking, “I’m not good enough,” or “I can’t do this.” But don’t worry — that’s totally normal!
What matters is catching those thoughts and quickly changing them.
A great trick is to take three deep breaths.
In through your nose, out through your mouth. And then remind yourself — “I’m in the process of transformation.” This simple act can help reset your mind.
The key is to be consistent.
The more you catch yourself and replace those negative thoughts with positive ones, the easier it becomes.
Your brain will start to expect those new thoughts, and your whole life will start to shift.
You might not see big changes right away, but keep going.
Look out for small signs of transformation. Maybe you’ll notice you’re sleeping better, or you have more energy during the day.
You might start to breathe more deeply, or feel more confident in the choices you make. These little signs are proof that your new self-talk is working!
Tomorrow morning, when you open your eyes, you’ll have a choice.
Will you go back to your old, comfortable thoughts, or will you start a new conversation with yourself?
Remember — the words you speak to yourself today will shape the life you live tomorrow. So, start speaking with power. Start speaking with purpose. Your new life begins with the conversation you’re having with yourself right now.
And I’ll be right here cheering you on.
